Day 8 - Wednesday, September 24: Charleston, MO to Gamaliel, AR

START - Charleston, MO

END - Gamaliel, AR

MILES - 228

Having just learned of the Bikes Blues & BBQ - Fayetteville, Arkansas 9/24-9/27, am envisioning a plan... sitting down with the maps right now and have a nude destination (thanks for that voice to text translation, Iris... though perhaps you know something about this rally...). Looks like some great scenic stuff in between.

Although I had pretty much sworn to avoid anything in the chain store, hotel, or restaurant department, The golden arches are everywhere and a great way to snag a Wi-Fi signal. Once I got over that hurdle of conscience, it was a slippery slope down to the Hampton in Owensboro.

Apparently the fireworks business is good, because I found a new low for gas prices there. Also the golden M announced free wireless. Starbucks offers that as well, but so far I haven't had a chance to use my gift card.

On the upside of being chained to a chain, the golden arches is the new coffee shop for the geezers and all others. Get to hitchhike on some delightful conversations and as always, have conversations about what I'm riding, where I'm headed and what they ride, rode, or would never ride.

My phone is telling me I gained  an extra hour sometime yesterday, can use it to let the dew dry off the tent.

Well, it's time to throw those two spare innertubes away so I've got room in those bags for some fireworks!

Downloaded Google maps for off-line small roads running south on the Mississippi.

Headed to Cairo for a bite before getting on the road for the day. Had two meals in Cairo, because they were known for their barbecue pork sandwiches but Wednesday was rib special. Willie Nelson ate there too.  Local fellow beside me at the counter looked at the rig I was on, and said "You really ought a ride the levee road. So I did. Video below..

Another day of high points.

Spending the night at the Bayou Resort in Gamaliel, AR
(2325 Fout Rd, Gamaliel, AR 72537). No wireless here, which really is as it should be. I'm just going to relax and enjoy this place.
