Day 2 - Thursday, September 18: Fairfax, VT to Rome, NY

START - Fairfax, VT

END - Rome, NY

MILES - 244 (75 mpg)

I am ecstatic in upping my average daily mileage today. Calculations indicate I can now actually attain California by the end of October.

WEATHER - 50-ish and overcast most of the day, warming a little bit towards the end of the ride through the Adirondacks.

GUIDING ADVICE
"heated vest"
Thanks go to veteran road trippers neighbor Bill in CA and brother Lar in VT for this ride changing advice.  Remained comfortably warm all day, and the ride through the Adirondacks was enjoyable.

LESSON LEARNED
The manufacturer recommends a thin shirt between you and the vest, which I did. I had opted for the vest with the heated standup collar that had no layer in between. That would explain why at the end of a sunless day I had a mysterious neck sunburn underneath all that gear, and it wasn't that wicked good potato bacon soup lunch that I was savoring the smell of all afternoon.

WAY POINTS OF INTEREST
-The ferry ride on Lake Champlain. -Delightful riding through the Adirondacks.
-Baseball's first pitch Hall of Fame (Just happened to ride by that place, and it's not in Cooperstown)

NEW TO ME
"La Phunk"  That's a pepperoni pizza from "the garage" (sic) in Rome, New York. The sauce is a blue cheese and hot sauce mix. Even a Labatts "Ice" goes well with that.  I was carded for that beer and will take that as proof positive that motorcycling keeps you young.

WAKE UP LITTLE SUZI... IT'S TIME TO GO HOME!

Route plan - leave the cold behind.
Perhaps I can hire a surrogate rider to feed me blog entries... (Sorry Al, that's my ploy - Lar)
SPOT got a temporary stay of execution due to a last minute admiring glance at the tool bag.

Avery, CA and 7500 miles - here we come!

The sendoff

Charlotte, VT - Essex, NY ferry
