END - Charleston, MO
MILES - 190
Day 7 is looking a lot like Day 1 in the forward progress department. I'm just glad it it happening at the Hampton Inn. The good people at the Hampton, and one of them is Bernard, are extending Southern hospitality and their media center usage. I've finally got an opportunity to upload and organize my photos and videos and free my iPhone up going forward.
The pictures in the morning from Owensboro are a hint of one of many reasons why I just loved that oasis. I visited for a while with Mike, local guy on a bike (with pedals), who was also taking some shots with his iPhone. We were both in agreement that you just can't capture it. He said the fog coming off the river was a rare occurrence. He also gave me a little bit of history of the waterfront development and kid park. "Mitch McConnell hasn't done a lot for Owensboro, but he did get $40 million for this." My share for that morning's pork was 13 cents. I'm considering that quite a value.
Didn't depart Owensboro until around four in the afternoon. Had some time to make up so went for the bigger roads, 431 south to the Western Kentucky Parkway. Suzi could hold her own with the most robust of sub compact cars. Traffic was light and the speed of 70 mph is easily attained, dropping into fourth gear for the hills to maintain. Really am appreciating that front sprocket upgrade. Although the scenery on the highway doesn't hold a candle to the back roads, it's nice to know that if I need to make up some time I can do it. Pay to play.
Wanted to avoid a hotel because after sleeping with Hampton, I just didn't feel ready for a rebound relationship. Made to Cairo just as I was losing light and used my convenient locate a campground app and pushed on to Boomland, the only game in the area, and gave them a call to verify space. Didn't realize what I was signing up for until I started to see the billboards announcing them from 20 miles out.

OK, so I can meander for the next week or so and then make it up with 500 mile days on the back end of the vacation... |
Any day which begins like this is already a good day...
